South African singer Tyla has broken Beyoncé’s record for the most streamed album by a black female artist released in 2024. Tyla’s debut album achieved this milestone by accumulating 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, surpassing Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ which had 1.564 billion streams.
The album now holds the title of the most streamed album by a female African artist.
Her lead single ‘Water’ has nearly reached a billion streams on Spotify and even won the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.
Despite these achievements, Tyla’s album and its deluxe edition did not receive any nominations in the recently announced 67th Grammys.
Nevertheless, she remains the most awarded African artist of the year with a total of 20 awards including 1 Grammy, 3 MTV EMAs, 2 BET Awards, and many others.
