Al-Hilal have confirmed the cancellation of Neymar Jr’s contract, marking the end of his injury-plagued 18-month stint in Saudi Arabia.
The Brazilian, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023, only managed to make seven appearances for the club.
In a statement posted on social media, the club said they had “agreed to terminate the player’s contract by mutual consent”.It added that “the club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career with Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career.”
Unfortunately, just two months after signing, Neymar suffered a cruciate ligament injury while playing for Brazil in October 2023, sidelining him for a year.
Despite returning briefly in October and November, he injured his hamstring and has not played since.
Neymar’s annual salary was reported to be around $104 million.
It is now widely speculated that the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain superstar will make a return to his childhood team, Santos.
