The historic town of Oyo in Oyo State is poised to enter a significant chapter as Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade is set to be formally inaugurated as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Friday, April 4, 2025.
As per reports, this highly awaited occasion will affirm Oba Owoade’s position as the guardian of Yoruba cultural heritage.
Sources have informed The Sun that comprehensive arrangements are in progress, with committees formed by representatives from both the Alaafin’s palace and the Oyo State Government diligently working to ensure a magnificent and flawlessly executed ceremony.
Prior to his coronation, Oba Owoade will partake in a series of traditional seclusion rites, referred to as Alaafin Rituals, which are deeply embedded in Yoruba culture and spirituality. These rituals are intended to prepare the monarch both physically and spiritually for his esteemed responsibilities.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State granted his approval for Oba Owoade’s nomination on Friday, January 10, 2025. In a ceremonial gesture, the governor bestowed upon him the staff and instruments of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, thereby officially commencing his reign.
