Oba Abimbola Owoade has been officially inaugurated as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
Owoade takes over the position from the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
The ceremonial coronation occurred today (Saturday) at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, with Governor Seyi Makinde presiding over an assembly of esteemed dignitaries, including prominent figures from Nigeria.
Among the distinguished attendees at the coronation were the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and Aare Oona Kankanfo of Yoruba, Iba Gani Adams, among other notable personalities.
CREEBHILLS reports that prior to the event, the Oyo State Government had implemented rigorous security protocols, which included the strategic deployment of security personnel throughout the historic city and its adjacent communities.
The newly inaugurated monarch successfully completed the obligatory 21-day traditional rites referred to as Oro Ipebi last Saturday, March 29.
Security measures have been considerably fortified in anticipation of the forthcoming ceremony.
