Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD foundation has pledged $2.5 million (£2 million) to assist those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. The singer announced the generous donation on Sunday, specifically targeting families who have been displaced in the Altadena and Pasadena areas of LA.
“BeyGOOD is taking action by announcing the LA Fire Relief Fund with a donation of 2.5 million dollars,” representatives wrote on social media. “The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”
Working alongside volunteer organizations and churches, BeyGOOD staff have been actively involved in identifying and providing support to those most affected by the devastating fires. Since the wildfires began on 7 January, thousands have lost their homes and tragically, 24 individuals have lost their lives.
Among the celebrities who have suffered property damage are Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Billy Crystal, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Miles Teller, Mel Gibson, Joshua Jackson, and Milo Ventimiglia. Beyoncé’s contribution is one of many from the entertainment industry, reflecting a strong solidarity in the relief efforts.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis donated $1 million (£825,000), Hilton launched an emergency fund, and Halle Berry and Sharon Stone are working with +COOP, a store which has turned into an emergency pop-up shop for clothes, toys and essentials for families affected by the crisis.
