YouTube sensation Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has humorously offered to purchase the social media platform.
His lighthearted proposal comes at a critical moment: ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, is rapidly approaching the January 19, 2025 deadline for divesting its U.S. operations.
MrBeast shared his offer on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned.”
The remark was made amid growing concerns over TikTok’s future in the U.S., with national security concerns due to its Chinese ownership. Following a law passed last year, the U.S. government has demanded that TikTok be sold to a non-Chinese entity or face being banned from app stores.
These developments are tied to wider concerns about data privacy and the potential for foreign influence over the app’s 170 million U.S. users.
While names like Elon Musk have surfaced as potential buyers in recent speculation, TikTok has dismissed such rumors as “pure fiction.”
MrBeast’s tongue-in-cheek offer has sparked widespread discussion, with many responding humorously and sharing their thoughts in the comments.
