Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, a close associate of the late James Earl (Jimmy) Carter, who served as President of the United States, will preside over a memorial service in honor of the former President in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday.
Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, in Plains, Georgia, USA.
Kehinde Akinyemi, the Special Assistant on Media to Obasanjo, announced in a statement on Saturday that the esteemed Nigerian leader and prominent Africanist would conduct the memorial service to pay tribute to his friend, the 39th President of the United States.

In his announcement, Akinyemi indicated that the service is scheduled to take place at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King, located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, commencing at 9:00 AM.
The President of the Baptist Convention, Rev. Israel Akanji, will deliver a special sermon during the event, while Obasanjo will present a tribute titled “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan.”
