Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, has been subjected to a two-match touchline ban subsequent to his expulsion during the Merseyside derby against Everton earlier this month.
Arne Slot, aged 46, was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver following an intense 2-2 stalemate at Goodison Park.
He subsequently acknowledged succumbing to his emotions, reportedly directing a four-letter expletive at the officials after Everton’s equalizing goal during stoppage time.
An independent disciplinary hearing conducted by the FA adjudicated Slot as guilty of “improper conduct,” resulting in his suspension alongside a financial penalty amounting to £70,000.
His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, also faced a two-match suspension and a £7,000 fine for a comparable infraction.
The suspension is effective immediately, indicating that both Slot and Hulshoff will be ineligible for Liverpool’s Premier League encounters against Newcastle tonight and Southampton on March 8.
Nevertheless, Arne Slot will be eligible for participation in the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on March 13, as UEFA competitions are exempt from the FA’s regulatory authority.
In the absence of Slot and Hulshoff, first-team coach Johnny Heitinga will be responsible for managing Liverpool’s next two league fixtures.
The Merseyside derby culminated in disarray, with Everton’s James Tarkowski netting an equalizer in the 98th minute.
A confrontation post-match between Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucouré resulted in red cards being issued to both players, with law enforcement also necessitated to intervene.
Liverpool and Everton have incurred fines of £50,000 and £65,000, respectively, due to their failure to maintain order among their players during the incident.
In the aftermath of the derby, Liverpool has bolstered their title aspirations with victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City.
