Aston Villa have become unexpected contenders in the race to sign Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, who has been frozen out of the squad in recent weeks.
The 27-year-old Rashford, an England international, has not played for United since their Europa League game against Plzen on December 12. While he has been linked with moves to AC Milan, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund, his preference is reportedly a transfer to Barcelona.

However, Barcelona’s financial limitations, particularly Rashford’s high wages of £325,000 per week, have made a move to the Spanish club unlikely. This has opened the door for Villa to make a bid for the striker.
Villa, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options following recent departures, see Rashford as a potential reinforcement for their top scorer, Ollie Watkins. Despite his rumored desire to join Barcelona, Rashford may need convincing to agree to a temporary move to Villa.
His performances this season have been underwhelming, with only four goals in 15 appearances, leading to United’s manager Ruben Amorim stating last week, “I would rather pick my 63-year-old goalkeeping coach over the wantaway forward.”
Rashford, who signed a five-year contract extension with Manchester United in the summer of 2023, now faces a vital decision in his career as the transfer window deadline approaches.
