Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, has confirmed that a legal complaint has been filed by the Spanish league to the EU Commission, alleging that Manchester City has violated EU Competition Law.
The complaint, which was filed in 2023, is connected to the Foreign Subsidies Regulation.
This regulation pertains to foreign subsidies provided by non-EU nations to companies operating in the internal market.
LaLiga’s complaint asserts that Manchester City has received foreign subsidies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), granting the Premier League club an unfair advantage and leading to significant distortions in various national and EU markets.
“All they do is they think about how they can avoid the rules and regulations,” Tebas said.
“We have reported this to the European Union with facts and figures.
“Why? Because it’s an English team that is not part of the EU but they have commercial activities in Europe.
“It’s really important that all clubs are subject to transparency rules and governance and real competition in the financial and sporting side of their business.”
