French President, Emmanuel Macron has reportedly called for an “emergency meeting” with European leaders to discuss United States President Donald Trump, as revealed by Fox News referencing Politico.
The meeting was alluded to by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
Two EU officials informed Politico that the meeting is set to take place on Monday.
“I’m very glad that President Macron has called our leaders to Paris,” Sikorski was quoted as saying, noting that the event would involve talking about the implications of Trump’s actions “in a very serious fashion.”
Sikorski has a history of openly discussing US politics, having previously compared President Joe Biden’s debate performance to the decline of ancient Rome and agreeing with Trump’s stance on NATO countries increasing their defense spending.
Despite these differences in opinion, Macron has maintained a friendly relationship with Trump since his reelection in November of last year.
In fact, Macron showed a willingness to collaborate with Trump in a post on X.
“Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump,” Macron’s post read. “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
Macron said it was “an honor” to host Trump in December, when he visited Paris to witness the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
