President Donald Trump’s administration has filed a lawsuit against New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James, accusing them of violating federal law by protecting illegal immigrants.
The newly appointed Attorney General, Pam Bondi, made the announcement during a press conference.
“This is a new DOJ. New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today,” Bondi announced at a news conference.
The lawsuit also names Mark Schroeder, the commissioner of the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, for his involvement in implementing the Green Light laws, which allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses and restrict federal agencies from accessing the state’s driver’s license information.
“They have green light laws, meaning they’re giving a green light to any illegal alien in New York, where law enforcement officers cannot check their identity if they pull them over,” Bondi said.
The Justice Department has been pushing to eliminate sanctuary policies in other states like Illinois and Chicago as well.
