Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has cautioned his team that there will be inevitable departures from the club this summer.
With the need to balance the books to comply with financial rules, Amorim is prepared to let go of several players in order to bring in fresh faces for next season.
Amorim said: “We have a lot of games to play. But that [summer departures] is clear, and I think that is not a difficult situation because everybody understands that in football sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on. When you are honest with someone, they can take it. In the beginning, it is hard, but they will understand. So I’m quite honest with my players and they already know that sometimes they have to move on at the end of the season.”
United are facing their worst Premier League season yet, needing 26 points from 11 remaining games to surpass their lowest points total of 58.
Despite winning five, drawing three, and losing eight of his league matches so far, Amorim is determined to rebuild the squad.
Despite the team’s struggles, Amorim is expected to have the opportunity to reshape his squad in the upcoming transfer window. Manchester United will face Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday afternoon.
