Reality TV star Bambike Olawunmi Adenibuyan, also known as Bambam, recently shared the darker side of childbirth on an episode of Me and My Girls on Fertitude.
She discussed the often overlooked aspects of postpartum care, the consequences of medical errors, and the importance of advocating for oneself during pregnancy and delivery.
Bambam bravely recounted her own harrowing experience, revealing that her kidneys failed, her heart weakened, and her liver shut down after giving birth. She shared that her daughter had detached from the placenta, putting her at risk of oxygen deprivation had they not reached the hospital in time.
Despite the trauma, Bambam expressed gratitude for her daughter’s life and revealed that seeking therapy helped her navigate through the emotional aftermath.
The mother of two emphasized the importance of being proactive in one’s healthcare and standing up for oneself during pregnancy and childbirth.
The wife of Teddy A said the incident haunted her for a while that she had to seek therapy to walk her through being grateful.
“My kidney failed, my heart became weak, my liver, everything was just shutting down. She had detached from the placenta; if I was a second late, she would have lost oxygen, and I would have had a stillbirth. Every time I look at her, I just say ‘what if’. That word tormented me; what if the doctor wasn’t attentive? What if the nurse didn’t do her due diligence? It haunted me for a while, I had to get therapy to walk me through being grateful”.
From the joys of welcoming a child to the unexpected challenges of postpartum recovery, @bammybestowed shares her story.
