US President Donald Trump emphasized that he is serious about the idea of seeking a third term in office, despite it being prohibited by the US Constitution.
During a phone interview with NBC News, the president addressed speculation about a potential third term, acknowledging that the 22nd Amendment limits presidents to serving only two four-year terms.
He said: “No, I’m not joking. I’m not joking,” but added, “It is far too early to think about it.”
“There are methods which you could do it, as you know,” he said.
This amendment states that no individual can be elected to the presidency more than twice. During the interview, Trump was asked about a hypothetical situation where his running mate, Vice President JD Vance, could temporarily assume office before Trump would take over.
He acknowledged the possibility, stating, “That’s one” approach.
“But there are others, too,” he added.
