Lyon manager, Paulo Fonseca, has received a nine-month ban from the French Professional Football League (FLP) as a result of his altercation with referee Benoit Millot during Lyon’s 2-1 victory over Brest in a Ligue 1 match.
As per an announcement made by the FLP on Wednesday, Fonseca will be prohibited from being on the bench, entering the officials’ dressing rooms, and participating in any official events before, during, or after matches until November 30.
Fonseca was shown a red card in stoppage time for his aggressive reaction to a potential penalty call against his team.
Following his ejection, he confronted Millot by getting up close to his face, prompting Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso to intervene and push him away.
Despite efforts by some of his players to hold him back, Fonseca attempted to approach the referee again before eventually apologizing for his behavior.
“I just want to say that I’m sorry for what I did. I should not do it,” Fonseca told DAZN.
“Maybe we do things that are not right. I’m sorry.”
