EPL: Manchester City’s hope dealt blow by draw with Brighton

Manchester City Brighton

Manchester City could only achieve a 2-2 draw in the Premier League against Brighton on Saturday, resulting in the loss of pivotal points that adversely affect their aspirations for participation in European football in the forthcoming season.

Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush found the net for Pep Guardiola’s squad; however, Brighton equalised with a second-half own goal attributed to City defender Abdukodir Khusanov, subsequent to Pervis Estupinan having netted the visitors’ initial goal.

The draw resulted in the reigning champions Manchester City remaining provisionally in fifth place within the Premier League standings, accumulating 48 points from 29 matches. Brighton trails closely behind in seventh place, with only one point separating the teams.

Haaland converted a penalty in the 11th minute after Marmoush was fouled by Adam Webster. Estupinan restored parity just ten minutes later when he deceived goalkeeper Stefan Ortega with an exceptional free kick that struck the post.

Manchester City regained their advantage with Marmoush’s goal in the 39th minute, facilitated by Ilkay Gundogan, who laid the ball off for the Egyptian, enabling him to deliver a powerful shot into the net.

Khusanov’s effort to clear Webster’s header from a corner shortly after the commencement of the second half allowed the visitors to level the score once more.
