Detective Melissa Mercado, an officer of the New York Police Department (NYPD) who garnered public attention for her appearance as a dancer in a suggestive music video, has been temporarily reassigned from active investigations pertaining to sexual offenses as the department undertakes an evaluative review.
Law enforcement sources have verified that Mercado, recognized for her exemplary investigative capabilities, is no longer engaged in cases within the Special Victims Unit, which is tasked with the investigation of purported sexual crimes, pending the resolution of the review.
The New York Police Department is currently investigating whether Mercado adhered to the requisite protocols for secondary employment while off-duty. All officers within the NYPD are mandated to submit formal documentation if they partake in supplementary occupations during their off-duty hours.
It remains ambiguous whether Mercado infringed upon any departmental regulations by participating in the “Doin That” music video, in which she was depicted wearing a bra and G-string.
The New York Post was the inaugural outlet to report on the inquiry into Mercado’s conduct.
S-Quire, the artist responsible for the song, along with the director of the music video, Pitch Perfect, informed TMZ that Mercado was referred to them by a casting agency and that they were uninformed of her status as a police officer.
The NYPD has yet to issue an official statement regarding the ongoing evaluative review.
