Muyiwa Awoniyi, the manager of Grammy-winning singer Tems, has ignited a heated discussion online after warning Nigerian youths against expecting much from the government.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Awoniyi bluntly stated:
“Nigeria has no plans for you.”
His comment quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. While many agreed with his stance, others argued that nation-building is a shared responsibility between the government and citizens.
The debate comes shortly after Afrobeats star Rema voiced his frustration about Nigeria’s challenges in a recent interview.
Unlike Awoniyi, however, Rema urged youths not to give up on the country, emphasizing that both the government and the people must work together for progress.
“Many have lost hope in Nigeria, but I won’t. I will keep doing my best to contribute to the country’s development,” Rema affirmed.
Awoniyi’s statement has further fueled conversations about the government’s role in addressing the concerns of young Nigerians.
