Reports of Diddy being offered a plea deal have been circulating for a while, and they have now been confirmed as true.
TMZ reports that during a recent court hearing, prosecutors disclosed that a plea deal was indeed offered to the Bad Boy founder, but he declined it. Details of the deal remain undisclosed at this time.
Diddy’s legal team argued that while he may have lived a swinger lifestyle, it was not illegal. Prosecutors emphasized that they do not want the defense to bring up examples of other high-profile individuals hiring prostitutes during the trial.
Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, assured them that he would not do so but maintained that he has the right to establish certain behaviors as part of a lifestyle.
This development follows a recent request by Diddy’s team to exclude footage of him allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie at a hotel in 2016 from the trial.
Prosecutors were quick to push back against the request, arguing that he wanted to hide the footage because it’s “some of the most damning evidence of his sex trafficking.”
“The defendant has been overwhelmingly concerned with the existence of the video surveillance since the assault occurred and has taken great measures to ensure it was not released,” prosecutors said in a filing, per Billboard. “Now facing trial, the defendant attempts to keep this devastating proof from the jury. His grasping arguments to preclude this crushing evidence should be quickly dismissed.”
Diddy’s trial is currently scheduled to begin next month. He’s facing charges related to alleged sex trafficking and racketeering, and if convicted, could be handed a hefty prison sentence. He maintains his innocence.
