Katy Perry has had to cancel her upcoming concerts in Guadalajara, Mexico due to the delayed opening of the new arena.
The singer took to Instagram Stories to announce that her shows on 1 and 2 May at Arena Guadalajara will not be able to take place as scheduled.
The postponement of the opening of Arena Guadalajara has also led to the cancellation of performances by Carlos Rivera and Intocable, as reported by Rolling Stone.
“Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2,” she began, before explaining the lengths she went to to try and avoid the cancellation.
Katy Perry continued, “Last week I sent my team to the Arena to make sure there wasn’t anything we could do to make this happen but it was evident when they arrived that the venue was not ready or safe to receive my show or an audience. I wish I could fix this but it is beyond my control.”
The pop star concluded her message by writing, “You guys mean the world to me and we have all been on such a beautiful journey together that I will be thinking about how I can create something special for the fans in Guadalajara in the future.”
Despite these setbacks, Katy Perry will still be launching The Lifetimes Tour in Mexico City on Wednesday. This tour marks her first in seven years and will see her travel to North America, Europe, and Australia before concluding in December.
The tour announcement came shortly after Perry’s return to Earth following her space flight with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin program.
The 11-minute journey, which also included Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez, took place on 14 April from West Texas.
