Rema Joins Tyla, Katy Perry, Future, and LISA for 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony

Rema Joins Tyla, Katy Perry, Future, and LISA for 2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony

Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema has officially been unveiled as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

The singer will perform at the Los Angeles ceremony alongside a global lineup that includes Tyla, Future, Katy Perry, Anitta, and LISA.

FIFA confirmed the announcement through its official social media platforms, describing the ceremonies as part of a historic expansion of World Cup entertainment across North America.

According to FIFA, the 2026 tournament will feature three separate opening ceremonies for the first time in the competition’s history.

The celebrations will begin in Mexico City on June 11, 2026, before continuing on June 12 in both Toronto and Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles event, where Rema and other global artists are expected to perform, is being positioned as one of the tournament’s major entertainment highlights for the opening weekend.

In its statement, FIFA said the ceremonies would combine football, music, and culture to launch what it called “the greatest show on earth.”

“For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, a new benchmark will be set as three spectacular opening ceremonies unfold across Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles,” FIFA stated.

The organization also hinted that more international performers will be announced in the coming months.

Rema’s inclusion in the lineup marks another major international milestone for Afrobeats and Nigerian music globally.

Over the past few years, the singer has emerged as one of Africa’s biggest crossover stars, with global chart success, international collaborations, and performances at some of the world’s largest entertainment events.

His selection alongside artists from the United States, South Korea, Brazil, and South Africa also reflects FIFA’s growing focus on global musical diversity and youth-driven pop culture.

For many fans, the announcement further highlights the growing international dominance of African music, particularly Afrobeats and Amapiano, on major world stages.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup itself is expected to be the largest edition in tournament history, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

With football and entertainment increasingly intertwined, FIFA appears determined to make the opening ceremonies as culturally impactful as the tournament itself.

And with Rema now confirmed as a headline performer, Nigerian music will once again be in the spotlight on one of the biggest stages in global sports and entertainment.
