Sevilla have parted ways with head coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta after a series of disappointing performances in 2025. The club is now turning to long-time figure Joaquin Caparros for a third spell in charge.
A 1-0 defeat to Valencia on Friday marked Sevilla’s fourth consecutive loss, dropping them to 13th place in La Liga.
Having secured only three victories since the start of the year, the club’s leadership felt compelled to act, fearing a potential end-of-season collapse.
Garcia Pimienta, who took over last summer following tenures at Barcelona, Athletic, and Las Palmas, failed to make a significant impact during his time in charge.
His departure comes amid rising internal dissatisfaction, which had intensified even before the latest loss at Mestalla.
According to Relevo, Caparros will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the campaign.
The 68-year-old, known for previously stepping in during turbulent periods in 2018 and 2019, is being relied upon once again to steady the ship.
Although Sevilla currently sit seven points above the relegation zone, looming fixtures against struggling sides like Las Palmas, Alaves, Osasuna, and Leganes keep the danger very much alive.
Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke, who arrived last summer, has struggled to find form in Garcia Pimienta’s inconsistent setup, but may thrive under Caparros’ guidance.
With just seven matches remaining, Caparros faces a clear challenge: ensure Sevilla’s survival and bring stability to a club now preparing to welcome its sixth manager in three years.
