Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr recently revealed that she does not want her mother to hear the second verse of her latest collaboration with Wizkid, titled ‘Gimme Dat’.
In this verse, she boldly commands a man to let her “survey” his private parts.
“So many people wan lick my stew, so baby chill make I survey your tools… and if I handle your 2 by 2, you fit to scream, you go lose your cool,” she sings.
Sampling Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s 2000 hit ‘911’, Starr reflects on the male gaze she often receives and how she transforms it into personal empowerment. While some praised her artistic expression, others criticized the rawness of her delivery in the controversial verse.
On her social media platform, Ayra Starr expressed her hesitation for her mother to encounter the provocative lyrics in the song.
She wrote, “Hopefully my mom never listens to my second verse.”
