Entertainment billionaire David Geffen has filed for divorce from his husband, David Armstrong, less than two years after their marriage.
The 82-year-old media mogul married Armstrong, a former go-go dancer, in 2023, and the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement.
David Geffen, whose net worth is estimated at $8.7 billion (£6.5 billion) by Forbes, has enlisted prominent divorce attorney Laura Wasser and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation, according to TMZ.
Geffen is known for co-founding several major music and film companies, including Asylum Records (1971), Geffen Records (1980), DGC Records (1990), DreamWorks Records (1996), and DreamWorks SKG in 1994 with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Having retired 15 years ago, David Geffen now earns primarily from investments in stocks and equities. Under California law, dividends from such investments are generally not considered part of the marital estate, which may limit Armstrong’s financial claim.
Still, Armstrong will receive spousal support for one year, in line with California’s rule that support is granted for half the duration of a short-term marriage.
Geffen will also cover Armstrong’s legal fees, as stated in the divorce filings. The two first met in 2020 when Armstrong was working as Geffen’s personal trainer. They wed in a private ceremony in Beverly Hills in 2023.
