Billionaire media mogul David Geffen is facing a lawsuit from his estranged husband, Donovan Michaels, who claims Geffen breached a promise to provide him with lifelong financial support.
Michaels, a 32-year-old dancer also known as David Armstrong, filed the suit amid their ongoing divorce proceedings in Los Angeles Superior Court. The former couple separated in April 2025, just over a year after marrying in March 2023 — without a prenuptial agreement.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, Michaels is accusing the 82-year-old David Geffen of violating both an express and implied oral agreement by cutting him off financially and evicting him after their separation.
“Geffen also cut him off from his status quo financial support,” his legal team alleges, pointing to what they claim was a commitment made during their relationship.
However, David Geffen’s attorney, Patty Glaser, strongly denied the accusations, stating:
“There was no contract — express, written, oral, or implied — that has ever existed. We will be vigorously and righteously defending against this false, pathetic lawsuit.”
David Geffen, a music industry legend and co-founder of both Asylum Records and DreamWorks Records, is now retired. He has an estimated net worth of $8.7 billion, according to Forbes.
