Grammy-nominated singer Chlöe Bailey has opened up about an emotional moment that left her in tears after watching Sinners, the latest critically acclaimed film from director Ryan Coogler.
During a candid TikTok livestream, the Pray It Away star revealed that the film struck a nerve, describing its themes as painfully close to her real-life experiences in the music industry.
“Can I be honest? After Sinners, I cried,” Chlöe confessed. “It just reminds you so much of the industry, right? And it’s like, you can have a gift like he [Sammie] did with his guitar […] but in order to be successful, the vampires were telling him to sell out so that he could live forever and his music could live forever.”
Chlöe reflected on the symbolic struggle the character faces, calling it a mirror of what many artists endure — the tension between staying authentic and giving in to commercial pressures.
“It was showing the people who decided not to go to the other side — they were in there fighting for their lives, going through it — while the people who did give in were outside celebrating and getting things quicker,” she added.
The singer went on to express a sobering truth about fame and success:
“No matter how hard you work, how good of a person you are, no matter how talented you are, sometimes that’s not enough to get you places that you need to be.”
Chlöe’s raw honesty has struck a chord with fans, many of whom praised her vulnerability and called her a voice for artists navigating an often unforgiving industry.
