Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili made history on Saturday at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games, shattering the women’s 150m world record with an electrifying time of 15.85 seconds (2.0m/s) at Piedmont Park, Atlanta.
The 22-year-old became the first woman ever to run the 150m under 16 seconds, smashing the previous record of 16.23s set by Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.
Ofili’s extraordinary feat headlined a stellar outing for Team Nigeria at the high-profile street athletics meet, which drew top global competitors in a dynamic, fan-focused setting.
Meanwhile, world record holder Tobi Amusan continued her 2025 resurgence by clocking 12.53s in the 100m hurdles to finish second in her heat behind American Keni Harrison (12.44s), securing a spot in the final. The Nigerian hurdler had previously posted 12.74s in Xiamen and 12.66s in Keqiao, signaling a return to peak form ahead of the summer championships.
In the men’s sprints, Udodi Onwuzurike impressed with a season’s best of 10.20s in the 100m, finishing second behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine (10.13s) and qualifying for the final. Onwuzurike’s performance marked a strong step forward in his 2025 season.
