Katy Perry recently addressed the criticism surrounding her public image with humor during a stop on her Lifetimes tour.
Performing in Chicago, the pop icon playfully referenced her reputation while engaging with the audience.
In a fan-recorded video, Katy Perry responded to the crowd’s enthusiastic cheers by joking, “Well, I thought I was the most hated person on the internet.”
As the applause continued, the Firework singer added, “I think that’s false!”
The concert took place just a few weeks after Perry launched her Lifetimes tour in late April. Earlier that month, Katy Perry participated in Blue Origin’s first all-woman space flight — a move that drew significant backlash online, resulting in a surge of critical comments directed at her.
Prior to that, the former American Idol judge faced scrutiny for collaborating with Dr. Luke on her single Woman’s World despite ongoing sexual assault allegations against him by Kesha.
Still, Katy Perry has remained upbeat and resilient in front of her fans.
“Please know I am OK, I have done a lot of work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,” she commented on Instagram in April.
“My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer: ‘No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself.'”
