Latto has once again found herself at the center of a trending conversation, not over a new single or beef. Still, her stance on sexual exclusivity and body count references in her music.
In a viral clip from her new Complex interview released on Thursday, May 29, the 26-year-old rapper got candid when asked by Speedy Norman why she often mentions having a low body count in her lyrics. Her answer was both honest and empowering.
“It’s not that deep,” Latto said with a casual shrug. “Be a boss. Don’t let everybody put their hand in that cookie jar, period.”
For Latto, it’s not about judging anyone else’s choices; it’s about setting personal boundaries and sending a message of self-respect and empowerment to her fans.
She explained that being exclusive isn’t a flex on others, but a way of taking control over one’s body and energy.
“Everybody ain’t touched this, everybody ain’t had their hands on this motherf*****,” she continued, reinforcing that her lyrics are less about numbers and more about owning her narrative.
Interestingly, Latto extended her commentary beyond women, saying she believes men should hold themselves to a similar standard, joking:
“Y’all just be slanging that motherf***** around.”
Social Media Reacts
As always, fans and followers had strong opinions, both in support and opposition. Here’s a snapshot of some of the most viral responses:
-
@janeisha_missvi: “She should be proud! 👏🏽 Everyone should NOT have access to your goods. Protect your pum pum, privacy and peace at all costs!”
-
@melanin_monroe_93: “Honestly, this is a positive message she’s putting out there to all women. I don’t see why some people so annoyed by it.”
-
@r3method: “I never thought I’d see the day where a woman would get drilled for claiming to not be sexually promiscuous.”
-
@gee2srt: “If Sexyy can yell hoochie coochie😭 why she can’t say she can count her bodies on 1 hand lmaoao.”
-
@vixxenn___: “Only people mad are the ones that’s ran thru 🤣😭”
On the flip side, some skeptics questioned why Latto’s message hasn’t been more widely adopted or quoted by fans in the same way that more sexually explicit lyrics often are.
@rob_lane_edits: “I was wondering why I never see chicks quoting Latto in their captions🚶🏽♂️➡️”
But as one user wisely pointed out:
@divyyredd: “Everybody can’t experience you! It’s called boundaries & morals!”
The Bigger Picture
Latto’s stance comes shortly after she was questioned by a Twitch streamer who echoed the age-old debate: why does a woman’s body count even matter?
Rather than wade into judgmental waters, Latto kept her response graceful yet firm, asserting that her lyrics are her truth and a reflection of the power in saying no.
Whether or not you agree with her, there’s no denying that Latto’s message is sparking important conversations around sexual standards, double standards, and the right to self-determination.
