President Donald Trump has stated that he is willing to extend the deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest TikTok’s U.S. assets beyond June 19 if a deal has not been reached by then.
In April, Trump had already extended the deadline by two and a half months in hopes of finding a non-Chinese buyer.
“I would … I would like to see it done,” Trump told the NBC News program ‘Meet the Press with Kristen Welker’ in an interview taped on Friday and aired across the US on Sunday.
Trump said he had a “sweet spot” for the app after the app helped him win over young voters during last year’s US presidential election.
According to him, “TikTok is – it’s very interesting, but it will be protected”.
Unfortunately, a potential sale of TikTok was thwarted due to Trump’s tariffs on China.
Despite this, Trump indicated to NBC that he may not grant another extension.
