Real Madrid has officially announced that Xabi Alonso will be taking over as their new manager, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti. The former Spanish midfielder, who previously won the Champions League with the LaLiga team in 2014, has signed a three-year contract. Alonso revealed his departure from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month, and he will be introduced as the new manager at Madrid’s training ground on Monday.
He is set to lead Los Blancos in the Club World Cup, with his first game against Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal on June 18. Alonso, 43, achieved success at Leverkusen by guiding them to their first Bundesliga title and winning the German Cup in his first full season as a senior club manager during the 2023-24 campaign. However, Leverkusen finished second behind Bayern Munich in the most recent season.
