Sections of Real Madrid supporters whistled Kylian Mbappé during Thursday’s 2-0 La Liga victory over Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The French forward returned from a thigh injury as a second-half substitute after missing Madrid’s recent El Clásico defeat to Barcelona. This result confirmed Barça as La Liga champions.
Despite scoring 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions before the match, Mbappé has recently faced criticism from parts of the Madrid fanbase over what some perceive as a lack of commitment.
The criticism intensified after reports of Mbappé holidaying in Sardinia while recovering from injury.
As he entered the pitch, whistles could be heard from sections of the Bernabéu crowd, although the striker appeared to smile at the reaction.
Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa initially left both Mbappé and Jude Bellingham on the bench.
Youngster Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring before halftime after connecting with a low pass from Brahim Díaz inside the penalty area.
Bellingham later sealed the victory with a powerful low finish from just outside the box.
The match was played against the backdrop of growing tension around the club following a trophyless campaign.
Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League earlier in the season and also lost the league title to Barcelona.
Club president Florentino Perez recently announced new elections amid mounting pressure and fan frustration.
During the match, stadium stewards reportedly removed a banner reading “Florentino go now” as divisions among supporters continue to grow.
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding the club’s managerial future remains intense, with reports linking former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho to a possible return to the Bernabéu.
