Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has sparked online conversations after revealing that he would gladly become a house husband if his wife ever earns significantly more than he does.
The actor made the statement during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed marriage, financial success, and family responsibilities.
According to Deyemi, he has no problem with his wife becoming the family’s main breadwinner if she reaches a very high level of financial success.
“If my wife makes $1 million to $10 million per annum, I’ll quit acting and be a house husband,” he said.
The actor added, humorously, that he would be willing to take on domestic responsibilities despite not knowing how to cook.
“I will carry my children to school and cook even though I don’t know how to cook,” he joked while laughing during the conversation.
His remarks quickly generated mixed reactions on social media, with many users debating traditional gender roles, financial responsibility, and modern marriage expectations.
Some social media users praised his openness and confidence, describing his perspective as progressive and supportive of shared partnership in marriage.
Others argued that many men may struggle with the idea of reversing traditional household roles, especially in African societies where men are often expected to remain primary providers.
Deyemi Okanlawon is known for his roles in several Nollywood films and television productions and has frequently spoken publicly about marriage, family life, masculinity, and relationships.
