The Federal Government has commenced the long-awaited payment of ₦44,000 minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to a report by NAN, the payment applies to ex-corps members who completed their service before the recent increase in monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 took effect earlier this year.
The development comes as a fulfillment of the government’s earlier promise tied to the upward wage review.
Former corps members have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the unexpected credit alerts:
“Thank you NYSC. Thank you President Tinubu. Nigeria will be great again,” wrote user @Kingpin_black1.
“₦44k don land. NYSC no carry last. God bless Nigeria,” added @pharmacist_shezzy.
Another user, @ifeoluwa_X, shared: “Just got my alert. I almost deleted my NYSC account. Thank you FG.”
The move has been widely praised as a sign of renewed trust, accountability, and progress in the government’s engagement with Nigerian youths.
