A Nigerian lawyer has taken to social media to vent his frustration after being fined ₦24,000 by the Lagos State government, just moments after pulling over to inspect a strange sound coming from his car.
The lawyer, identified by his handle @MalachyOdo1 on X (formerly Twitter), shared that he had parked briefly by the roadside after hearing an unusual noise from his engine.
While investigating the issue, he was shocked to receive a notification informing him of the fine.
“You park by the roadside to check out a noise coming from the engine area and the next thing you get is a fine! Lagos IGR no go kpai person,” he wrote in disbelief.
His post has sparked outrage and debate online, with many Lagos residents sharing similar experiences and calling out what they described as aggressive revenue generation tactics by the government.
Some users questioned the lack of discretion in such cases, especially when drivers pull over due to potential emergencies or safety concerns.
As of now, there has been no official response from Lagos traffic authorities regarding the incident, but it adds to the ongoing conversation about the balance between regulation and empathy on Nigerian roads.
