2027: PDP Urges Peter Obi to Return, Cites Need for Reunification and Stronger Opposition

‘Women not as corrupt as men’ – Peter Obi

The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended an open invitation to the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, urging him to return to the party he once called home.

This appeal followed an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday, where members reviewed the current state of the party and explored strategies for its revitalization.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the State Chairman, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, the party emphasized that alliances with ideologically incompatible coalitions are unlikely to yield lasting political gains.

“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP,” the statement read.

“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria.”

Peter Obi had left the PDP in 2022 after expressing doubts about his chances of securing the party’s presidential ticket. He subsequently joined the Labour Party, under which he ran in the 2023 presidential election.

During the meeting, Mr. Chidebe also called on Anambra voters to support the PDP’s candidates in the forthcoming elections, particularly Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible, free, and transparent electoral process.

Additionally, the SEC unanimously nominated Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State. Chidebe appealed to the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to formally recognize the nomination and communicate it to the party’s national secretariat.
