Renowned Nigerian preacher Apostle Johnson Suleman has sparked widespread discussion after delivering a sermon emphasizing the role of financial status in revealing a person’s true character.
Speaking to his congregation, the leader of Omega Fire Ministries asserted that a man’s true values are not revealed during times of financial struggle, but rather when he attains wealth and power.
“You don’t have character as a man if you don’t have money,” he declared, suggesting that poverty often masks traits that only wealth can expose.
According to Apostle Suleman, many men appear humble, loyal, and respectful when they are broke, but this demeanor can be misleading.
“A broke man can be humble,” he said, “but that humility may be the result of circumstance, not conviction.”
He further explained that true character is shown when a man, despite having financial means, can resist pride, remain loyal in relationships, and treat others—especially women—with respect, regardless of their social status.
His sermon has ignited intense conversations on social media, particularly surrounding relationships, marriage, and the influence of money on behavior and values.
While some praised the clergyman for speaking hard truths, others debated whether wealth should be the sole test of a man’s integrity and moral foundation.
