Dr. Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State, has officially resigned from his position following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor announced a high-profile event scheduled to take place at the Government House in Uyo on Friday, June 6.
The gathering featured key APC leaders from across the country, including the governors of Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Edo states, as well as Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the Senate President.
Governor Eno explained that his decision to leave the PDP was made after “wide consultations” and directed his appointees who were unwilling to join him in the APC to step down.
In response, Dr. Ememobong tendered his resignation via a formal letter that has since gone viral on social media. He stated that his personal convictions would not allow him to defect to the APC and that he was stepping down in line with the governor’s directive.
“I have been guided by my political values, and I cannot in good conscience align with a platform I have long opposed,” Dr. Ememobong wrote in a separate post on his official social media handle.
He expressed gratitude to both Governor Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity to serve Akwa Ibom State in various capacities, reaffirming his commitment to his principles and the democratic process.
