Filmmaker Daniel Ademinokan has broken his silence following the resurfacing of comments made by his ex-wife, actress Stella Damasus, about the controversial end of their marriage.
In a 2023 interview with comedian Teju Babyface, Stella alleged that she found out her marriage was over via a YouTube video, claiming she was never directly informed by Daniel.
“I pride myself on being a respectful person. A lot of things were said about me on YouTube because that is how I found out my marriage had ended,” she said at the time.
On Sunday, Daniel took to Instagram to set the record straight, calling out what he described as false narratives and sharing what he claimed were receipts.
“I usually don’t dignify nonsense with a response,” he wrote, “but when silence gets mistaken for ignorance or guilt, it’s only fair to offer a quick 5-minute reality check.”
He addressed Stella directly, stating:
“Five years since the separation. Three since the divorce. Still, you just can’t let go… I’m still living rent-free in your narrative.”
Daniel went further to debunk claims that Stella was unaware of the divorce, sharing what he said was an email from July 2021, allegedly from Stella, requesting an address to send divorce papers.
He also detailed why he left the marriage, citing concern for his mental health and his son’s safety.
“You screamed at me boldly, ‘I don’t want to be here, but I have to be here!!!’… I packed my son, my peace, and my entire life, and walked out the front door in broad daylight.”
Daniel also alleged that his son suffered physical harm during the relationship, claiming:
“When a child needs makeup to hide a scar before school, the damage runs deeper than the skin.”
He firmly challenged Stella’s version of events, noting:
“You claimed you ‘found out about the divorce on YouTube.’ Lie. You claim I signed and sent you divorce papers you were unaware of. Another lie.”
Concluding his post, Daniel wrote:
“Let me be, just as I have left you in peace. I’ve chosen a more private life now, so don’t drag me into your soap opera… Over and out.”
Daniel and Stella’s marriage began in 2014, marking her third marriage and his second. The relationship had drawn heavy scrutiny, especially after Daniel’s high-profile separation from actress Doris Simeon, the mother of his son.
The couple eventually separated in 2020 after relocating to the United States, and have remained estranged since.
