Maduka Okoye Named Enugu State Ambassador

The Super Eagles’ shot-stopper and Udinese keeper, Maduka Okoye, has been officially appointed as an Ambassador of Enugu State by Governor Peter Mbah during a special ceremony at the Government House on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who hails from Enugu, spoke passionately about “coming full circle” and giving back to his community. Okoye revealed plans to launch:

  • A charitable foundation focused on health and education initiatives across the state.

  • A football academy designed to identify, mentor, and train young talents, offering them a pathway into professional sport.

“Enugu is my origin, and I carry it with pride everywhere I go,” Okoye said. “This foundation and academy will give our kids the support and opportunities they deserve.”

Governor Mbah lauded Okoye’s rise on both the national and European stages, describing him as “a role model for Enugu’s youth.” In recognition of his commitment, the governor pledged to back Okoye’s academy project by allocating prime land for its development.

“Maduka is not just making us proud on the global field; he’s poised to lift our next generation of stars,” Mbah remarked. “As our Ambassador, he’ll inspire students in our Smart Green Schools and beyond.”

In a broader vision for sports in the state, Mbah also announced plans to upgrade Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to FIFA standards and invited Okoye to headline the upcoming Enugu International Marathon, which will draw elite runners worldwide.
