The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially named Gennaro Gattuso as the new head coach of the Italy national football team, following the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti after Italy’s disappointing 3–0 defeat to Norway.
The appointment was confirmed by Gianluigi Buffon, former Italy goalkeeper and current FIGC official.
Gattuso, a 2006 World Cup winner and former AC Milan midfield star, assumes the role with a wealth of managerial experience, having coached teams such as AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Marseille, and Hajduk Split. He notably led Napoli to Coppa Italia victory in 2020.
His immediate challenge will be to revive Italy’s faltering World Cup qualification hopes and restore confidence among fans after a string of poor performances.
