Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has revealed that her boyfriend Van Hunt already proposed — but she hasn’t said yes yet.
During their first joint interview on NBC’s Today Show, the famously private couple opened up about their relationship, which began in 2020. Hunt, a 55-year-old musician, showed up with flowers for Berry, 58, and called her his “person,” while she echoed the sentiment, saying, “I have found my person, finally.”
However, when asked about a possible engagement, Van Hunt surprised viewers by confirming he had already popped the question — but was still waiting on Berry’s response.
“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” Hunt admitted. “It’s just out there floating. Maybe you can encourage her.”
Berry, laughing, responded by explaining her hesitation.
“I’ve been married three times,” she said. “Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way.”
Still, she hinted that marriage could be on the horizon:
“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. But it’s not because we feel like we have to — it’s just something we want to do.”
A Look Back at Halle Berry’s Relationship History
Halle Berry was previously married to:
-
David Justice (1993–1997)
-
Eric Benét (2001–2005)
-
Olivier Martinez (2013–2023), with whom she shares a son, Maceo
She also has a daughter, Nahla, from her previous relationship with model Gabriel Aubry.
Berry and Hunt went public with their romance in September 2020. They later participated in a light-hearted “commitment ceremony” officiated by her then 8-year-old son in the back seat of their car.
“What I love about it is, when you blend families, it’s really hard,” Berry said in a past interview. “So the good news is, my kids are comfortable and that’s all that matters.”
For now, it seems Van Hunt’s proposal is still “out there floating” — but fans are hopeful it won’t stay unanswered for long.
