“I didn’t post about Benue for clout” – Kiddwaya Breaks Silence Amid Backlash Over Benue Fundraiser Appeal

Kiddwaya Breaks Silence Amid Backlash Over Benue Fundraiser Appeal

Reality TV star Kiddwaya has responded to widespread criticism following his call for public donations to aid victims of the recent attacks in Benue State.

Earlier this week, the former Big Brother Naija housemate urged Nigerians to contribute to a fundraiser by his Kiddwaya Foundation aimed at supporting displaced families. However, the plea sparked backlash, with many accusing him of hypocrisy given his frequent display of luxury and wealth.

Addressing the controversy in a social media statement on Thursday, Kiddwaya clarified his motives:

“I’ve seen the comments. I hear the backlash. I didn’t post about Benue for clout, I posted because I genuinely care. I am a Benue indigene and a proud Benue man.”

He continued:

“What’s happening there breaks my heart, and I couldn’t just look away. I took the donation post down because I saw the pain and misunderstanding it caused—not because I’m ashamed of helping, but because I respect your voices, even the angry ones.”

Kiddwaya emphasized that the focus should remain on the tragic events in Benue, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in violent attacks on the Yelewata and Daudu communities between June 13 and 14. Survivors remain displaced and in desperate need of aid.

Critics—including online personality VeryDarkMan—slammed Kiddwaya for requesting donations instead of personally funding the relief efforts, citing his past displays of wealth, such as claims of spending $30,000 on jollof rice and misplacing €70,000 in Ibiza.

Despite the backlash, Kiddwaya insists his foundation will continue its humanitarian work—even if misunderstood:

“I will not stop caring. I will not stop showing up when lives are on the line. Even if it’s not on social media. Even if it’s misunderstood.”

Kiddwaya, born Terseer Waya, rose to fame during the BBNaija Lockdown edition in 2020 and has remained in the public eye for both his entertainment career and flamboyant lifestyle.
