Reality TV star Terseer Waya, popularly known as Kiddwaya, has drawn widespread criticism after appealing for public donations to aid victims of the recent Benue massacre.
The call for funds sparked outrage among social media users, many of whom questioned why the billionaire’s son was seeking public support instead of personally funding the initiative.
On Wednesday, the former Big Brother Naija housemate took to social media to announce a fundraiser for those affected by the deadly attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, where several lives were lost to gunmen.
“Let’s help the victims of the Benue massacre. Please donate, any amount can help. Click the link below to donate,” Kiddwaya posted.
In a follow-up tweet, he added:
“The Kiddwaya Foundation will be working with credible charities to help those affected by this tragedy. The link will be live shortly.”
However, many Nigerians were unimpressed. Critics accused Kiddwaya of attempting to shift financial responsibility onto the public despite his privileged background.
One user wrote:
“You that should be donating to help people, you’re telling us to donate. Do you know how much beans is now? You and your father can’t contribute small abi?”
Another commented:
“If you want to help victims, do so quietly. Don’t come online to announce it as if you are broke. You are from a wealthy home. Ask your father, Terry Waya, to give you money to help these people.”
A third added:
“Kiddwaya didn’t even acknowledge the Benue killings until now, and the first thing he does is drop an account number. This is the problem with rich kids who lack empathy but want PR points.”
While some defended Kiddwaya’s effort as a genuine attempt to rally public support, the majority sentiment remained skeptical, accusing him of insensitivity and seeking publicity amid national mourning.
The controversy comes as Nigeria grapples with repeated violent attacks in Benue State, sparking public anger over government inaction and insecurity in rural areas.
