The governments of Kwara, Kano, and Oyo States have declared public holidays to celebrate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a work-free day.
A statement by his spokesperson said the holiday is in honour of the new Islamic calendar year. The governor congratulated Muslims and urged them to reflect on the values of peace, unity, and sacrifice. He also prayed for a year of blessings, security, and progress.
Similarly, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared Thursday a public holiday. Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, made the announcement, urging Muslims to reflect on the past year and embrace spiritual renewal. Yusuf reiterated his administration’s dedication to peace and improved citizen welfare.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday.
According to a circular signed by Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Secretary to the State Government, the holiday will enable Muslims to observe the Hijrah with prayers and reflection. The state called for prayers for the continued prosperity of Oyo State and Nigeria.
