“I Made a Mistake, Please Forgive Me” – Actress Bukky Raji Apologizes for Supporting Tinubu

Bukky Raji Apologizes for Supporting Tinubu

Nollywood actress Bukky Raji, popularly known as Aminatu Papapa, has publicly tendered an emotional apology to Nigerians for her support of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

In a now-viral interview on Oyinmomo TV (YouTube), the Yoruba movie star expressed deep regret over her campaign involvement, stating that her support was based on misplaced trust and business expectations, not personal gain.

“I Regret Supporting Tinubu” — Actress Speaks From the Heart

“What I regret in my life is that they said they wanted to renew hope,” Raji said tearfully. “I use this moment to beg Nigerians—those I love, those who love me, and even those who don’t love me. Please, don’t be angry.”

She emphasized that her change of heart was not due to social media backlash, but from personal reflection on Nigeria’s current economic hardship.

“It’s not because people bashed me on my page but because I sat down and reflected… ‘Oh God, I’ve made a mistake.’”

Why She Backed Tinubu

Raji, who runs a rice distribution business, explained that her support stemmed from economic hardship caused by the Buhari administration’s 2019 border closure, which devastated her business. She hoped Tinubu, as a fellow southerner, would reopen the borders and revitalize trade.

“I started with 20 bags of rice and grew to offloading trailers. I believed that if Jagaban (Tinubu) entered office, things would get better for us… but now we’re all suffering—those who supported and those who didn’t.”

“I Was Never Paid”—Raji Clears the Air

Contrary to public assumptions, Raji stated she received no payment for her campaign efforts.

“I can boldly say I did not receive a dime. It’s not like they didn’t plan to give us money, but disunity, greed, and internal wrangling among our colleagues ruined everything.”

She added that while some colleagues may have collected money, she personally did not benefit.

Citing Tinubu’s Lagos Legacy and Political Promises

Raji said her belief in Tinubu was also based on his performance as Lagos State governor, as well as promises made by unnamed politicians during campaign meetings.

“They told us they were going to work, that there would be change. That’s why I stood behind them as an ambassador.”

Previous Clash with Adunni Ade Resurfaces

Following the 2023 election, Raji had previously clashed with fellow actress Adunni Ade, who had accused unnamed celebrities of campaigning for “a meagre N90,000.” Raji, in a fiery video response, insisted their support was out of loyalty, not payment.

“Adunni Ade or whatever you’re called, are you crazy? Did they tell you we supported Asiwaju because of money? It was out of love!”

A Plea for Forgiveness

In her closing remarks, Raji begged Nigerians for forgiveness.

“Don’t be angry, I’ve offended you. That’s my only regret in life. We’re all suffering now. Please forgive me.”
