The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing Nollywood actress Angela Okorie being escorted by armed police officers while jogging—an incident the Force has described as “inconsistent with professional standards.”
Viral Video Sparks Backlash
In a statement issued on Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, and signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police expressed strong disapproval of the officers’ conduct, noting that it fell short of the decorum expected from members of the force.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.
Possible Movie Set Involvement
Adejobi clarified that while the footage may have been captured on or near a movie set, the visual portrayal of armed officers escorting a civilian during a routine activity like jogging has generated widespread public concern and criticism.
“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Administrative Action Underway
The Force disclosed that internal processes have begun to identify the officers involved and understand the context of the video. Based on the outcome of the review, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Angela Okorie Yet to React
As of the time of filing this report, Angela Okorie has not made any public statement addressing the controversy.
However, investigations by PUNCH Online suggest that the clip may be from the behind-the-scenes footage of “Queen of Guns”, a production Okorie began promoting about eight weeks ago.
In a previous Instagram post teasing the project, she wrote:
“Day 1: Lights camera action! Queen of Guns is ready to blow away your mind. Are you ready?”
Public Perception and Police Image
This incident adds to growing concerns about the professional image of the police, especially when officers are seen engaging in celebrity-related activities that do not appear connected to national security or official duty.
