Lagos govt announces date to begin e-call-up enforcement on Lekki-Epe corridor

Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat

The Lagos State Government has formally declared that enforcement of the electronic call-up (e-call-up) system along the Lekki-Epe corridor will begin on June 16.

This updated enforcement date follows a previously postponed rollout. The announcement was made by Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Sunday.

The decision came after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held to address escalating traffic congestion caused by expanding industrial activity within the Lekki Free Zone and surrounding areas in Lagos.

Dr. Hamzat explained that the e-call-up system is specifically intended to manage the flow of articulated trucks and tankers operating along the corridor.

He stated, “I urge all stakeholders to remain fully committed to the initiative, as it is critical in enhancing logistics efficiency and improving road transportation infrastructure in the state.”

Mr. Osiyemi also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the system, noting that although consensus among stakeholders had previously been reached, implementation was temporarily delayed due to enforcement-related concerns that required additional discussions.

He ordered the immediate removal of all articulated vehicles currently blocking traffic on the Lekki-Epe route and stressed that the e-call-up initiative is a traffic control measure rather than a financial venture.

“Enforcement of the e-call-up system is not intended as a revenue-generating initiative, but rather as a vital strategy to improve traffic flow, safety, and road infrastructure management across the state,” Osiyemi stated.

The stakeholder meeting saw active involvement from key industry associations and regulatory authorities, including the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Major Energies Marketer Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Lekki Worldwide Investment Company (LWIC), Lekki Free Zone (LFZ), Lekki Deep Sea Port, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), NNPC Retail, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
