Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said that his decision to seek a second term in office will be guided by divine direction, even as he received a major endorsement from the Oha Ngwa clan during a civic reception held in his honour at the Okpuala Ngwa Stadium.
Speaking at the event organized by the people of Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs, Otti acknowledged the endorsement as a gesture of appreciation for his administration’s work so far but maintained that only God would determine his political future.
“Just like 2023 was in the hands of God, 2027 will also be in the hands of God. While I appreciate your endorsement, which I understand to be a recognition of the work done so far, I will continue to consult with God, and in due course, I will make my position known,” Otti said.
Focus on Aba and Economic Growth
Governor Otti emphasized the importance of Aba in his administration’s economic agenda, calling it central not only to Abia but also to the entire South East and South-South regions. He said boosting Aba’s commercial potential is key to increasing the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) for sustainable development.
Infrastructure Commitments
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, Otti announced that the Mgboko–Ntigha Road will be completed by December 2025. He also addressed criticisms about locating the Abia Airport project in Nsulu, explaining that the decision was based on technical feasibility, not political bias.
“Full compensation has been paid to verified landowners. Any unresolved cases are due to documentation issues,” he clarified.
Grassroots and Political Realignment
As part of grassroots engagement, the governor revealed plans to upgrade the Sam Ihesiulo Stadium in Okpuala Ngwa into a modern sports facility, directing relevant commissioners to begin the process immediately.
The event also witnessed a wave of defections from opposition parties, including the PDP and Accord Party, as well as declarations of support from members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for the Labour Party.
Lawmakers Urge Governor to Run Again
Prominent lawmakers such as Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Rep. Ginger Onwusibe, and Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu lauded Governor Otti’s achievements in infrastructure and governance, urging him to accept the endorsement and consider seeking re-election in 2027.
The event further cements Otti’s growing popularity in Ngwa land, positioning him as a strong contender if he chooses to run again.
